Thierry Rochat is currently the principal investigator of the project. He is a pulmonary physician and director of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine, University Hospitals of Geneva. As former president of the Swiss Respiratory Society, he is chairing the SAPALDIA directorate since 2005.

Nino Künzli, Chair of Public Health at the Medical Faculty University Basel and Vice-director of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute since 2010 is a SAPALDIA member from the very beginning. Once a physician, he got trained in environmental epidemiology. As a research professor in Los Angeles (USC) and in Barcelona (CREAL) he focused investigations on the effects of ambient air pollution in the US and Europe.

Nicole Probst-Hensch is associate professor at the Medical Faculty University of Basel and heading the Unit of Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. Originally a pharmacologist, she got PhD training in epidemiology at UCLA, held a research professor position at USC in Los Angeles, and is the former director of the National Institute of Cancer Epidemiology and Registration in Switzerland. Her research focuses on public health relevant mechanisms underlying chronic diseases As a SAPALDIA member from the beginning; she is leading biobanking and genetics  

Jean-Michel Gaspoz is a specialist both in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He is chairman of the Department of Community medicine, primary care and emergency medicine of the Geneva University Hospitals, and director of the Department of Health and Community medicine at Geneva Medical School.

Christian Schindler is biostatistician at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Basel. He is one of the earliest scientific investigator of the SAPALDIA project. He is in charge of the clinical database of the participants to the cohort and is particularly supervising the statistical methods in SAPALDIA'S scientific publications.
